TexPop, plus a Community Spot

A once-rockin' place with plans to become a thriving third-space.

Learn about the plan to revitalize the old TexPop gallery into an accessible, inclusive and lively community space.

Plans

To provide a gathering spot where neighbors can regularly socialize, organize, and support each other.

Originally established in 2012 by Austin/San Antonio music journalist and creative muse Margaret Moser, TexPop was created to preserve and document San Antonio and South Texas music, art and pop culture.

The next iteration of this space will support artists and musicians, while also providing a “third-space” for neighbors and community groups to gather.

While we’re busy rejuvenating the space, we’d love to get your support and input in building its future.

Third spaces are informal public gathering spots beyond home (first place) and work (second place).

Re-activation checklist

Repair & Rebuild Aug 2026

Ceiling tiles, broken plumbing, and rotted plywood are just a few of the items needing attention on our long list of things “to-do-first”. Oh, and mow the dang backyard!

Deep Cleaning Sep 2026

Gloves, goggles and bleach products. Rid the place of any cobwebs from it's time vacant, and make sure the floors & bathrooms shine better than Buc-cee's.

Sort & Triage Sep 2026

Sort & inventory the archive of amazing Texas music history sitting in flat files. Review what can be sold to raise funds for the space.

Prepare for Use Oct 2026

Setup a multi-functional space that can be used by and for the community.

Events

While we wait for a lively events calendar to take the place of this list, here’s a few of the ideas we’ve been discussing with neighbors, artists, musicians, and groups:

  • Total Agency would like to host fundraiser concerts to raise money for their free food distribution
  • Artist and designer Shelby Criswell needs room to host larger art workshops, as their studio is limited to five and demand is high
  • San Antonio Collective Care would like a place to gather and assemble hygiene and summer-survival kits for the nearby homeless encampments
  • Artist collective Blacksheep needs somewhere to display their guillotine 😱 (its currently in a shed)
  • Ideas neighbors have shared interest in hosting: children’s art workshops, farmer’s market & rummage sale, Mario Kart competition, Little Free Library & Pantry, pilates, mental health meetups, Know Your Rights classes, and so much more…

Reservations

We would love to know what ideas you have for the space. Please reach out to us if you’d like to help with the re-activation, or if you want to:

  • reserve space for a meeting, workshop, game night, or general hangout of your own
  • recommend an artist, musician, or organization that could utilize the space
  • organize a farmer’s market, thrift sale, or recurring event
  • host a community forum

We truly welcome all ideas & feedback.
